Prior to the Thanksgiving Holiday break, the Crossett Mayor's Youth Council received a trip of a lifetime! With the generosity of Governor Sarah Huckabee, Senator Bill Gilmore, State Representative Howard Beaty, Attorney General Tim Griffin, and many more, the group of teen leaders had the opportunity to: *Visit with Governor Sanders in her office. *Watch the Governor present her proposed budget and listen to questions from the legislature. *Meet with Senator Gilmore and Representative Beaty for questions and to hear about the day in the life of a legislature. * Tour the treasury office and each get to hold $600,000. *Tour Senate Chambers with Senator Gilmore and meet with Senator Pro-tem Hester and hear his perspective as President of the Senate. *Tour House Chambers with Representative Brooks. *Attend the Governor's annual turkey pardoning event at the Governor's Mansion. *Tour other areas of the capital. *Meet with many elected officials and staff. Thank you to Crossett Mayor Crystal Marshall for her continued support and partnership with our youth!

A parent notified the Crossett Police Department of a communication their student received that could be interpreted as a possible threat to the high school, which was referred to as “CHS.” Crossett Police investigated and performed a threat assessment, and have reached the conclusion that the communication was not directed at our high school, but another high school that could be referred to as “CHS.” Regardless, there will be an enhanced law enforcement presence at the high school tomorrow. We do appreciate the parent for doing the right thing and notifying the police, and we are very grateful for the prompt and diligent law enforcement response to this.

Final Update We have been notified that the suspect in the alleged threat to the football game is in police custody and has been arrested. We believe that there is no longer any active threat directed at this school district, and the football game will proceed as usual. Law enforcement has been tremendously helpful to us, and we are very grateful for their prompt and comprehensive response. We appreciate your patience as we have worked through this situation, and as always, we appreciate your support.

Update: Further investigation has revealed that the alleged threat was directed at tonight’s home football game, and not the high school itself. However, we continue to maintain the law enforcement and staff vigilance put in place earlier. Law enforcement is in the process of investigating the allegation, and the individual in question is not on campus and will not be on campus until the investigation is complete. There will be enhanced law enforcement presence at tonight’s game, but at the present, it is still scheduled to occur. Please monitor the district’s website for possible further updates.
