Joshua Teutsch, a 10th grader from Crossett High School, has spent the second half of his sophomore year in the Owl Program (Opportunity for Work Based Learning). Joshua expressed that he wanted to work in the fire department. After talking with Assistant Chief Wilhite about the OWL program, the fire department was glad to have Josh on board. Josh has enjoyed his time after school with the young firefighters and medics. The guys have given him a great experience showing him about “Fire Life”. What they have also done, is guided him down the path of a potential full or part time post high school career. Successful partnerships with public agencies and local businesses are key to supporting these wonderful young adults in the Owl Program governed by Arkansas Rehabilitation and Arkansas Transition.
Students like Josh get the chance to see what careers are really like when they get the chance to job shadow at places like the Crossett Fire Department. Josh’s job was setup with Assistant Chief Wilhite back in January. The fire department welcomed Josh with open arms after school. He has been going to the fire department twice a week for two hours and helping do odds and end jobs around the fire station. Josh has really enjoyed the job shadowing and extra money this opportunity has given him. Most students in high school don’t really know what they want as a career after high school. Being able to see what goes on in a career first hand gives students an idea if they would want to spend time in school for it.

Chris Brisby, an 11th grader at CHS, is pictured along with his Welding Instructor, Mr. Donnie Dubose, from UAM-CTC. Chris is enrolled in the Welding course at UAM-CTC, which is a Concurrent College Credit class. Chris, with the help of Mr. Dubose, welded the pictured eagle. He won the SkillsUSA State Competition for Arkansas. Chris and Mr. Dubose presented the project to the Board of Education on Monday night.
We congratulate our one retiree for the 2018-2019 school year, Mrs. Beth Parker. Mrs. Beth has been with Crossett Schools for 20 years. She was honored at a reception at the Administration Office yesterday afternoon. She is pictured with her young grandson. We wish her the best in her retirement!

Due to the weather forecast tomorrow, the Special Olympics have been postponed until next Tuesday, May 14th from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Yarbrough Field.
Fourteen of our 8th-grade girls represented CMS at the GLAMS (Girls Learning About Math And Science) Conference at SouthArk Community College. It was a fun day for almost 300 girls learning about careers related to Math and Science fields.

Crossett will be hosting the Special Olympics at Yarbrough Field on Friday, May 10th from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Please come out and support the participants! This is a big event for our community! We will have participants from Crossett, Monticello, Lakeside, Millcreek, SHABC and CB King Adult Center.

Dear Parents and Seniors, Mrs. Harrod, the College and Career Coach, is hosting a Balloon Launch for the graduating seniors and their parents. This will be held on April 30th and will start at 1:00 p.m. at the Outdoor Amphitheater at CHS. The seniors will be grouped by what college, branch of the military, or work field they will be attending after graduation. We would love to have all parents attend if possible to show your support for your graduating senior,and each senior is allowed 2 quests.
The CES Leadership Team will be featured Wednesday morning on Q-Lite radio at 8 a.m.
CMS will have a "Happy Day" fund raiser this Friday afternoon. All proceeds will be used to help cancer patients and their families in Ashley County. A donation of $5 will allow students to go outside for an extra recess. Snacks can be purchased for $1 each. Thank you.
There will be a District Title I meeting Wednesday, April 24 at 10 a.m. at the TIPS Center to review the use of Title I funds to support our students. Parents and the community are invited to attend.
