Crossett High School (CHS) students are required to become CPR certified in order to graduate. The reason behind CHS students having to be CPR certified, is that hands only CPR is a graduation requirement by Arkansas Department of Education said CHS nurse Jenny Hammons.
Arkansas Code Ann. 6-16-143 requires students in grades 9-12 to be trained in the psychomotor skills needed for CPR before graduating from high school beginning in the 2014-2015 school year according to the Crossett School District Parent- student handbook.
There are stories all across the nation about young people using CPR to save their parents, other children, and people in need of help. You never know when people might come across a terrible car accident or emergency that will put their CPR skills to the test. Though many children at that age do not yet have the strength to perform an adequate chest compression on an adult, learning this life skill will stick with them for the rest of their life.
