On April 29, CHS students and teachers from Art, EAST and JAG traveled to Little Rock to tour APPTEGY and the new visual art building at UALR.

APPTEGY is a relatively young Little Rock based company that helps school districts coordinate the most commonly used social media apps and other technology based communication resources. The following statement was taken from APPTEGY’s website: “Our products help superintendents and other administrators solve some of the biggest challenges their schools are facing. The role of school leaders is changing rapidly. With the introduction of school choice policies, leaders need to take control of how people think and feel about their schools. By building technology that empowers school leaders to share their districts’ strengths, we can help schools thrive in a world of school choice.” APPTEGY emphasises a culture of “Thoughtfulness” and “High Performance” with their employees. A panel of young graphic designers spent some time explaining what they do and answering questions from the students. Stephanie White said after the tour, “I think it was really interesting and would be a great place to work”.

The group then spent the afternoon touring the campus at UALR including the brand new Visual Art and Design building. At UALR, students may choose from a variety of visual arts majors including, Studio 2-D and 3-D, Photography, Graphic Art, Art History, Jewelry Making, Furniture Design and Art Education. Mrs. Hennington, CHS Art teacher stated, “We try to expose our students to a variety of career and college options so they might make informed decisions about their future.”
