Hastings Learning Center Message from the Pre-K Director

As a native of Crossett, I am proud to say that I received all of my pre-college education here. After marrying and having three children, I received a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Arkansas at Monticello. I later attended the University of Arkansas at Little Rock where I received a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Special Education. I have 18 years experience as an early childhood educator, having worked in both Pre-K and Kindergarten. This will be my fifth year as the director of the Crossett Pre-K Program.

It is my belief as an educator of young children that each child who comes to our program deserves the right to a caring, nurturing environment in which teachers appreciate childhood as a unique and valuable stage of the human life cycle and value the quality of children’s lives in the present, not just as a preparation for the future. I feel that educators should respect the dignity, worth, and uniqueness of each individual child, family member, and colleague and should strive to help children achieve their full potential in the context of relationships that are based on trust, respect, and positive regard.

It is with these thoughts and beliefs that I will strive to ensure that the Crossett Pre-K Program is a high quality program where each child is loved and respected and given the opportunity to begin to learn how to be a valuable member of society.

Janet Ricks, Pre-K Director
